The A330 (KC-30) Multi-Role Tanker-Transport (MRTT) is an Airbus civilian passenger aircraft converted to enable aerial aircraft refuelling to be undertaken. The modification includes the installation of military avionics, refuelling – including a pod and boom system, and associated systems including self protection.

Australian Aerospace is involved in the design detail and ongoing support for the mission equipment in the ADF’s five new MRTTs. The first of the MRTTs was scheduled to enter service in 2009 following RAAF operational tests and evaluation.

Engineering Knowledge Transfer

Throughout the MRTT program, enhanced engineering and technical publications capabilities in aircraft design are being transferred between Australian Aerospace and EADS. The shared knowledge places Australia in a strong position to continue offering world’s best aircraft design and support solutions, leading to possible export opportunities.
